Autism Spectrum Disorder: Understanding and Implementing Neurodiversity-Affirming Strategies in General and Special Education

Participants will cite the core diagnostic criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder, with specific examples of behavioral manifestations of those features likely to occur in a school-based setting. Participants will accurately describe the neurodiversity framework including corresponding vocabulary and perspective with relevant applications to special and general education including, but not limited to, goal-setting, student participation in the IEP process, and student-centered interventions. Participants will accurately describe the Person-Environment-Activity model with at least 3 examples of features that can impact an individual’s performance in each domain of P, E, and A relevant to the school-based setting.
