In this session, educators practice manageable strategies for fostering in students the self-management skills necessary to complete complex grade-level work. Participants walk away with actionable ideas to increase student motivation by incorporating agency and goal setting. Participants also practice ways to teach and assess the skills necessary for students to reach these goals, including the skills of planning, organization, and stress management.


All sessions are 12:30 – 2:30 pm.

About the SpeakerS

Maureen Chapman (she/her), , designs and delivers joyful professional development programs to support other educators as they work to care for their students and themselves through her work as the co-founder of cor creative partners. Before founding cor creative partners, Maureen was a long-time classroom teacher and school leader. She taught in classrooms at all levels, spending nine years teaching middle school Latin. During her eight years as a school leader, Maureen held various roles, overseeing curriculum, resources, student data, instructional coaching, professional development, and career education.

James Simons (he/him) is the co-founder of cor creative partners, an education professional development company. In his work, James aims to increase individual and organizational growth capacity, improve the educator experience, increase educator retention, and contribute to conditions that are conducive to equitable outcomes for all educators and students. Prior to co-founding cor creative partners, James served as a high-school principal and dean of students, instructional coach, middle- and high-school English teacher, visual storyteller, and writer.

Participants must attend all 5 sessions, either live or recorded, to receive PDPs and/or CEUs. If you are not eligible for PDPs and/or CEUs, you may apply for a Certificate of Attendance.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about participating in the webinar. Following the live webinar, registrants will be emailed a link to view the recorded webinar. The recording will be made available for 72 hours after each session.

Membership Information

Most MPY webinars are available to ONLY current staff from member districts and organizations. Public school memberships include police and fire personnel. Former and retired employees and members of committees, including but not limited to, PTO/PTA, PAC, School Improvement Councils, Health Councils, Drug/Alcohol Councils, and school volunteers, are not considered MPY members.

PDPs and CEUs

MPY is an approved Professional Development Provider through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (Provider No. F20180079). Professional Development Points (PDPs) are offered for all MPY professional development webinars. PDPs are issued for a minimum of 10 hours of training.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for clinical staff from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association, Inc. (MaMHCA). The NASW and the MaMHCA approves each event.

Following the final webinar in a series, participants will receive an email with information to apply for PDPs and/or CEUs. PDPs and CEUs will only be issued to participants who have attended the webinar(s) and submitted the requested information.

Event Cancellation Policy

If you are unable to attend a MPY webinar, you must cancel through your Zoom confirmation email one business day before the webinar. For MPY in-person conferences, registration closes 72 hours before the in-person conference by emailing You may not switch your registration from in-person to virtual after registration closes.
