Theresa Melito-Conners, Ph.D. (Dr. MC)

As an educator, it can be challenging to unplug from the reality of teaching and take time to recharge your batteries. Self-care is always important. Now more than ever, it is critical, especially for helping professionals where burnout, compassion fatigue, chronic stress, and vicarious secondary trauma are common unintended consequences of the work. This session will give a brief overview of all 10 domains and participants will have an opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses as it pertains to self-care and to make connections back to their classroom practice. We will also explore the first two domains of self-care which is nutrition/hydration and exercise/movement and how best to invite wellness practice into our classrooms for ourselves and our students. Ideally, participants should take all 5 workshops to maximize learning potential on this important topic.
