Vaping and Our Youth

March 1st, 2019

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey
Keynote Speaker

"Vaping and Our Youth" Conference

Use of vaping products and e-cigarettes has become an epidemic among teens. In addition to updates about legal issues associated with vaping, this conference will focus on associated health dangers and how vaping and use of e-cigarettes impact adolescent brain development. An afternoon “boots on the ground” panel will make proactive suggestions for both curriculum and disciplinary interventions. This conference is a follow-up to the December 3, 2018 “Vaping and Juuls” MPY Conference and will provide updated information.

Membership Information
Member rates for MPY events are available to current employees of member organizations. Public school memberships include police and fire personnel. Former and retired employees, members of committees including but not limited to PTO/PTA, PAC, School Improvement Councils, Health Councils, Drug/Alcohol Councils and school volunteers are not considered MPY members.

PDPs and CEUs
PDPs are offered for all MPY professional development conferences. PDPs are issued for minimum of 10 hours through attending two conferences. In order to facilitate awarding PDPs, we will be issuing PDPs under the heading of Mental Health and Safety Conferences. Any combination of conferences an individual attends will be used to accumulate PDPs. They will not have to be linked, as previously required.
PDPs certificates will be issued at the end of the school year for all MPY conferences an individual attends during this school year. PDPs can only be issued to participants who have attended the conferences and submitted the appropriate paperwork. PDP certificates will be emailed to attendees.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for clinical staff, upon approval from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association, Inc. (MaMHCA). Approval is granted by the NASW and MaMHCA separately for each conference. Conference participants may request CEUs by filling out the appropriate paperwork at MPY conferences. CEUs are given at Mental Health Series conferences in a minimum of 5 hours. They do not need to be combined with other conferences.
