Students, parents and staff all have an investment in IEP meetings working. This webinar will discuss common obstacles and challenges that arise during IEP meetings. Educators, administrators and related service providers who attend IEP meetings will leave with strategies, new ideas and plenty of food for thought.
About the Speaker
Abigail C. Hanscom, Ed.M, MSW, CAGS, brings twenty-seven years experience to the field of Special Education. She has held positions as a learning center teacher, curriculum specialist, special education administrator at the middle school level, and Assistant Director of Student Services at the District level. For the last ten years, Abby has worked as the Director of Student Services in the Westwood Public Schools. She holds a CAGS in Educational Administration, an MSW (clinical focus) and M.Ed. in Special Education, and a BA in Elementary Education. Abby is certified in Massachusetts as a Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent, Special Education Administrator, Middle School Principal, Special Educator (Moderate N-9) and Elementary Education Teacher (K-6). Her educational interests include co-teaching, training of aspiring administrators, inclusive practices, collaboration and consultation, and effective communication. Abby is an adjunct faculty member at Lesley University and Stonehill College, teaching in the Special Education program at the graduate level. She also co-hosts a podcast on special education that aims to make special education issues engaging and entertaining.

Most MPY webinars are available to ONLY current staff from member districts and organizations. Public school memberships include police and fire personnel. Former and retired employees and members of committees, including but not limited to, PTO/PTA, PAC, School Improvement Councils, Health Councils, Drug/Alcohol Councils, and school volunteers, are not considered MPY members.
PDPs and CEUs
MPY is an approved Professional Development Provider through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (F20180079 provider number). Professional Development Points (PDPs) are offered for all MPY professional development webinars. PDPs are issued for a minimum of 10 hours of training.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for clinical staff from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association, Inc. (MaMHCA). The NASW and the MaMHCA approves each event. Event participants may request CEUs by filling out the request form above.
Requests for PDPs and CEUs must be submitted within 8 days of the webinar. PDPs and CEUs will only be issued to participants who have attended the webinar(s) and submitted the appropriate paperwork within 8 days of the webinar, with accurate accountability codes.
PDP and CEU certificates will be emailed to attendees at the end of the school year.
