Mindfulness and Self-Care for Educators
Mindful Fridays: From Learning to Doing
October 8, 2021 | 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
This webinar is free to all Massachusetts educators.
Speakers: Patric Barbieri, M.Ed., Consultant; Will Kabat-Zinn, MA, Insight Meditation Center, San Francisco, Calif.
Many of us spend time reading books on mindfulness, attending mindfulness workshops, and watching YouTube videos featuring mindfulness teachers. While this is very inspiring in the moment, these actions do not always lead us to be more mindful in our daily life. In this webinar, participants will evaluate how they are practicing these techniques in real life. How do we move from hearing and learning about these skills to applying them? How are we taking our practice from a discrete practice to one that permeates all aspects of our life?
About the Speakers
Patric Barbieri has been in the field of special education for 32 years, working in myriad roles including special needs teacher, educational coordinator, and program director. He recently retired as Executive Director of LABBB Collaborative. His strength is in developing specialized programs for students with special needs from pre-school through high school. He has also developed a college program in collaboration with Middlesex Community College for students with disabilities who attend LABBB. Patric is a frequent speaker teaching mindfulness workshops and a new perspective for those struggling with anxiety, which he calls, “Positive Anxiety.” He also teaches workshops on how to develop a mindful culture in schools and organizations both for students and staff. He has been practicing mindfulness for 35 years. Patric has also conducted many program evaluations and professional development trainings for public school districts.
Will Kabat-Zinn, MA, spent his early practice years at the Insight Meditation Society with Larry Rosenberg, Sharon Salzberg, and Joseph Goldstein and at Panditarama Forrest Meditation Center in Burma under the guidance of Sayadaw U Pandita. Will was deeply influenced by his friendship with Dr. Rina Sircar who carried the lineage of Mingon Sayadaw through her teacher Taungpulu Sayadaw, and by the fierce compassion of Chan Master Shen Yen who he met and practiced with in New York. He lives in the East Bay with his wife and two sons.
