In this time of social, political and environmental unrest, how might mindfulness help us relate with skill to those with differing views? Difficult conversations can become automatic, pressured and reactive if we are not prepared to bring our full attention to the conversation and do so with intention. Mindfulness can support us in this way, enabling us to not just listen, but to comprehend and listen to understand. By implementing this practice, we increase the chances of having a respectful and meaningful exchange. Listening is the foundation of productive conversations.

About the Speakers
Tara Healey is the founder and director of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s Mind the Moment mindfulness program. Tara joined Harvard Pilgrim as a health educator and organizational development professional in its HR department, a position which she occupied for over 20 years. In that role she served as coach, strategist, program designer and facilitator. It was in this capacity that she brought an introductory mindfulness course to Harvard Pilgrim’s own staff members in 2006, long before mindfulness had hit the mainstream. Since then, Tara has created a comprehensive suite of mindfulness workshops and courses that have been conducted at over 200 organizations across the U.S., in a variety of industries. Additionally, Tara has spoken about mindfulness at numerous events domestic and abroad and has contributed articles to Mindful Magazine and the Harvard Business Review blog. Tara became a student of mindfulness over 25 years ago and sits silent retreats annually.

Zeenat Potia teaches mindfulness meditation in organizations and universities, and is an instructor for Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare. She has also taught at the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center since 2014. She has been practicing vipassana for over 15 years and considers silent retreats at the Insight Meditation Society as foundational to her deepening in the practice.

Zeenat integrates a business career of over 20 years in strategic communications in the higher education, non-profit, and publishing sectors into her offerings. Membership Information
Most MPY webinars are available to ONLY current staff from member districts and organizations. Public school memberships include police and fire personnel. Former and retired employees and members of committees, including but not limited to, PTO/PTA, PAC, School Improvement Councils, Health Councils, Drug/Alcohol Councils, and school volunteers, are not considered MPY members.

PDPs and CEUs
MPY is an approved Professional Development Provider through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (F20180079 provider number). Professional Development Points (PDPs) are offered for all MPY professional development webinars. PDPs are issued for a minimum of 10 hours of training.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for clinical staff from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association, Inc. (MaMHCA). The NASW and the MaMHCA approves each event. Event participants may request CEUs by filling out the request form above. 

Requests for PDPs and CEUs must be submitted within 8 days of the webinar. PDPs and CEUs will only be issued to participants who have attended the webinar(s) and submitted the appropriate paperwork within 8 days of the webinar, with accurate accountability codes. 

PDP and CEU certificates will be emailed to attendees at the end of the school year.
