Rescheduled Conference: Please note that the "School Discipline: Changing Behavior Using a Collaborative Problem-Solving Approach" conference, scheduled for Wednesday, February 13 at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School in Marlborough has been rescheduled to Tuesday, April 30.
School Discipline: Changing Behavior Using a Collaborative Problem-Solving Approach
J Stuart Ablon, Ph.D., will present a paradigm-shifting model to transform school discipline that has been shown to reduce behavioral challenges, teacher stress, and detention and suspension while helping our most at-risk students build the skills they need to succeed. Based on the latest neuroscience which shows that challenging students lack the skill―not the will―to behave, the evidence-based Collaborative Problem-Solving Approach provides K– 12 educators with a clear framework that can be implemented in both general and special-education settings.
The afternoon session will showcase how staff from the Billerica Public Schools address social and emotional learning through building-based teams and a Social Emotional Learning Support Specialist. With a focus on shifting the school culture from working in silos to working in integrated teams, the Billerica staff will explain the roles, functions, struggles and benefits of this approach. The role of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) on interdisciplinary teams to support behavior change in students will be highlighted.

Membership Information
Member rates for MPY events are available to current employees of member organizations. Public school memberships include police and fire personnel. Former and retired employees, members of committees including but not limited to PTO/PTA, PAC, School Improvement Councils, Health Councils, Drug/Alcohol Councils and school volunteers are not considered MPY members.
PDPs and CEUs
PDPs are offered for all MPY professional development conferences. PDPs are issued for minimum of 10 hours through attending two conferences. In order to facilitate awarding PDPs, we will be issuing PDPs under the heading of Mental Health and Safety Conferences. Any combination of conferences an individual attends will be used to accumulate PDPs. They will not have to be linked, as previously required.
PDPs certificates will be issued at the end of the school year for all MPY conferences an individual attends during this school year. PDPs can only be issued to participants who have attended the conferences and submitted the appropriate paperwork. PDP certificates will be emailed to attendees.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for clinical staff, upon approval from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association, Inc. (MaMHCA). Approval is granted by the NASW and MaMHCA separately for each conference. Conference participants may request CEUs by filling out the appropriate paperwork at MPY conferences. CEUs are given at Mental Health Series conferences in a minimum of 5 hours. They do not need to be combined with other conferences.
Event Cancellation Policy
If you are unable to attend any MPY conference after registering, you must cancel online at least 72 hours prior to event. Failure to do so will result in a cancellation fee. Conference no shows are also charged a fee. For assistance call MPY at 781-587-3411.
