School Crisis Team Development: Creating and Promoting Safe School Climates

Schools and districts do not often realize how many interventions they already have in place that contribute to the conditions needed for a safe school environment. In this session, participants will learn to align their current best practices with other research-based interventions that promulgate a positive and healthy climate.
About the Speakers
Scott Morrison, Ed.D., is the Superintendent of the Tri-Town School Union, a PreK-6th grade school district serving the towns of Boxford, Middleton and Topsfield. As a former teacher, principal, and Director of Curriculum and Technology, Scott has spent over 25 years in the field of public education. Scott holds a B.S. in Elementary Education, an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and recently received his doctoral degree at Northeastern University where he focused his research on Crisis Leadership.
Steve Burt, Director of Security and Crisis Response, Masconomet Regional School District, is the school liaison with the courts and public safety agencies for the district, coordinates all drills, staff and student safety training, and has oversight of the school building crisis teams. Prior to his role at Masconomet, Steve was an Operations Supervisor for the Massachusetts General Hospital Police & Security Department where he served as a Co-Chair of the Security Systems Committee and a member of the department’s Protective Intelligence and Threat Assessment Unit. Steve is an 8-year veteran of the United States Army Military Police and has also worked as a Reserve Police Officer in West Newbury, MA.

While this series is open to all Massachusetts educators, only attendees from districts who belong to MPY may apply for PDPs and/or CEUs.
Most MPY webinars are available to ONLY current staff from member districts and organizations. Public school memberships include police and fire personnel. Former and retired employees and members of committees, including but not limited to, PTO/PTA, PAC, School Improvement Councils, Health Councils, Drug/Alcohol Councils, and school volunteers, are not considered MPY members.
PDPs and CEUs
MPY is an approved Professional Development Provider through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (F20180079 provider number). Professional Development Points (PDPs) are offered for all MPY professional development webinars. PDPs are issued for a minimum of 10 hours of training.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for clinical staff from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association, Inc. (MaMHCA). The NASW and the MaMHCA approves each event. Event participants may request CEUs by filling out the request form above.
Requests for PDPs and CEUs must be submitted within 8 days of the webinar. PDPs and CEUs will only be issued to participants who have attended the webinar(s) and submitted the appropriate paperwork within 8 days of the webinar, with accurate accountability codes.
PDP and CEU certificates will be emailed to attendees at the end of the school year.
