Unlocking Potential: The Power of Developing and Promoting a Growth Mindset

Whether it is a fixed or a growth mindset, exploring our mindsets allows us to examine our true potential and view failure as an opportunity. In this workshop, participants will learn the difference between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset and how it pertains to working with students. Additionally, participants will evaluate their mindset to see where their beliefs are and discuss how small shifts in thinking and reframing circumstances can dramatically impact daily life inside and outside the classroom. Best practices for classroom management will be examined, and tips for developing teacher-student relationships to promote a growth mindset and allow students to flourish.
About the Speaker
Theresa Melito-Conners, Ph.D. (Dr. MC), is the founder of "Dr. MC's Self-Care Cabaret," where your health and well-being take center stage. It is the space to help you find your spotlight and learn all the different aspects of self-care. Additionally, Theresa is a Special Education Administrator in the Greater Boston area. Inspired by her doctoral research, Theresa loves to help others practice better self-care, and she is deeply passionate about this mission. Theresa is a recent graduate from Lesley University's Ph.D. in Educational Leadership program in Cambridge, MA. Theresa understands the challenges of balancing all of life's responsibilities and the importance of making time for you. With a B.A. in Theatre Studies from Emerson College and an M.Ed. in School Counseling from Salem State University, Theresa has a variety of unique experiences, from counseling adolescents with mental health needs to choreographing professional musicals. She also serves as a member of The Parent and Community Education and Involvement Advisory Council (PCEIAC) for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Massachusetts. Theresa has presented her expertise across the country, and she has additional publications in the works. Most MPY webinars are available to ONLY current staff from member districts and organizations. Public school memberships include police and fire personnel. Former and retired employees and members of committees, including but not limited to, PTO/PTA, PAC, School Improvement Councils, Health Councils, Drug/Alcohol Councils, and school volunteers, are not considered MPY members.
PDPs and CEUs
MPY is an approved Professional Development Provider through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (F20180079 provider number). Professional Development Points (PDPs) are offered for all MPY professional development webinars. PDPs are issued for a minimum of 10 hours of training.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for clinical staff from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association, Inc. (MaMHCA). The NASW and the MaMHCA approves each event. Event participants may request CEUs by filling out the request form above.
Requests for PDPs and CEUs must be submitted within 8 days of the webinar. PDPs and CEUs will only be issued to participants who have attended the webinar(s) and submitted the appropriate paperwork within 8 days of the webinar, with accurate accountability codes.
PDP and CEU certificates will be emailed to attendees at the end of the school year.
