Description
This seminar tackles the urgent challenge of accurately identifying and supporting learning disabilities in multilingual students. Educators will learn how to distinguish between second language acquisition and underlying disabilities such as dyslexia, ADHD, and other conditions that can significantly impact academic performance. Highlights include the risks of misidentification and delayed support, reinforcing the urgency of early, accurate identification of learning differences in multilingual populations. Participants will leave with practical, actionable strategies to differentiate instruction and deliver targeted interventions that ensure multilingual students receive the right support at the right time.
About the Speaker
Lisa Kingkade, LMHC, M.Ed. (she/her), is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with Enlightened Interventions in Mashpee, Massachusetts. She brings more than two decades of experience supporting the social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs of children, adolescents, families, and school communities.
Prior to transitioning into outpatient clinical practice, Lisa served in a variety of leadership roles within Milford Public Schools, including Adjustment Counselor at Milford High School, Assistant Principal of Stacy Middle School, Assistant Principal of Woodland Elementary School, and Director of Social Emotional Learning. Throughout her educational career, she demonstrated a strong commitment to equity and student support, also serving as the District McKinney-Vento/Foster Care Liaison, 504 District Coordinator, and Civil Rights Coordinator.
Lisa’s professional experience spans school counseling, educational leadership, trauma-informed practices, social-emotional learning, crisis intervention, family engagement, and systems-level support. In her current role as a clinician, she works with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral challenges, life transitions, and complex mental health needs. She is passionate about creating supportive environments where individuals and families can build resilience, strengthen coping skills, and achieve meaningful growth.
