Description
Last year, almost 50% of LGBTQ youth considered committing suicide. 84% of Queer youth reported feeling sad and hopeless every day, and a staggering 85% of LGBTQ youth of color find themselves in the throes of the juvenile justice system. Our schools have an incredible call to action ahead of them in protecting and affirming a population of youth who have incredible promise, despite the harrowing obstacles in front of them. This session is designed to share ways we can support LGBTQ+ youth negotiating the socio-political ecosystems where the hierarchies of sexual orientation, gender identity, and/ or race may experience safety and advantage in our classrooms and schools.
