In-Service Workshops

MPY is committed to bringing cutting-edge information and high-quality professional development to Massachusetts educators, students, and parents. Workshops are facilitated by experts recognized in the fields of education, psychology, social work, counseling, and student safety.

MPY partners with members to tailor workshops to meet the individual school’s unique and varied needs. Each member district/organization may select up to five in-service workshops annually. The following workshops are available for staff and parents. MPY does not offer PDPs and/or CEUs for in-service workshops.

  • Please submit requests at least two months in advance, if possible.
  • Individuals must register to participate.
  • A minimum attendance of 25 is required for each workshop. In-service workshops may be cancelled at MPY’s discretion due to low attendance.

In-Service Workshops

The following workshops are available for staff, students and parents. Workshops are offered both in person and via Zoom. MPY requires a minimum of 25 participants for staff workshops and a minimum of 40 participants for parent and caregiver workshops. Exceptions are made on a case by case basis.

Healthy, Unhealthy, and Abusive Teen Relationships

1 in 3 teens experience teen dating violence, that we know of. Many teens experience shame and hide their relationships from their support systems. Teen relationship dynamics are heavily influenced by media, family, and peers. The dynamics that teens are learning from are not always healthy but can shape what a healthy relationship looks like to them. In this session we will be discussing healthy, unhealthy, and abusive teen relationships. Participants will be learning skills to recognize, respond, and support youth. Although these are hard conversations to have, they are important for growth and healing.

Introduction to Trauma and Child Exposure to Domestic Violence

Many of our students have been exposed to trauma before ever entering our classroom. When children experience or are exposed to domestic violence and other forms of trauma, it can have a dramatic impact on their brain development. Every child has the incredible capacity to heal, and every child deserves a learning environment that fosters healing and resilience. This workshop will focus on the impact of child exposure to domestic violence and other forms of trauma; to help us better understand the behaviors a traumatized child may exhibit in the classroom and develop strategies to offer support.

This presentation is for juniors and seniors ahead of prom, educating them on the dangers of underage substance use and unhealthy decision making and empowering them with alternatives to ensure their prom is a night to always remember!
