David Solet, Esq., Former Chief of the Cold Case Unit, Middlesex District Attorney’s Office
Description
This presentation offers a practical outline of the legal landscape confronted by educators and school administrators, to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities without running afoul of the law. Using concrete examples, the presentation will discuss the distinction between school discipline and law enforcement; illustrate concepts like reasonable suspicion and voluntariness; and outline the criminal statutes that are most often confronted by school officials – including the law of threats, cyber-bullying, and weapons in school.
