Description

 This program will provide behavior analysts with an overview of the clinical interview process, its aims, and objectives. Participants will learn core communication skills that support effective gathering and sharing of clinical information. Specifics will include strategies and techniques for developing rapport and “bond” with informants, active listening, conveying empathy, and interrupting/redirecting unfocused exchanges sensitively. Participants will learn how these are applied in the context of a clinical interview for behavioral function.

About the Speaker

Dr. Joseph Ricciardi is the Senior Clinical Director at May Center School for Brain Injury and Neurobehavioral Disorders. He brings more than 25 years of experience serving children and adults with developmental and neurobehavioral disabilities, brain injury, and co-occurring psychiatric disorders in a variety of settings: outpatient consultation, community residences, private schools, and hospitals. Dr. Ricciardi has authored/co-authored numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed research articles on psychopathology, behavioral intervention, and psychopharmacology. He has served editorial board assignments for several journals in the field. Dr. Ricciardi speaks regularly at local and national conferences. Dr. Ricciardi is a licensed psychologist, a certified brain injury specialist (trainer level), and a board certified behavior analyst (doctoral level). He holds a Doctor of Clinical Psychology from William James College and a Masters in Education from Harvard University. He completed his internship and post-doctoral fellowship (residency) at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
